Our Water Footprint

We all do it, leaving the tap running whilst we are brushing our teeth, unplugging the bath just so we can fill it back up again with more hot water, leaving the hosepipe running whilst watering the plants. But just how much water are we actually wasting?

ISO are developing a standard ISO 14046, Environmental management – Water footprint, to outline guidelines on how we can improve our water footprint and stop wastage. This is due to be published by mid 2014. Of course to start off with, this standard will benefit global organisations and governments, so we don’t need to worry quite yet on how much water we use when brushing our teeth. However growing water demand does affect us all, so who knows what the future of this standard may bring.
